TB-500 is a synthetic peptide related to thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring protein involved in actin regulation — essentially the scaffolding cells use to hold shape and move. The two are frequently conflated, but TB-500 and thymosin beta-4 itself are not identical.
Most of what circulates about both comes from preclinical work — laboratory and animal studies. What research explores in that setting does not transfer automatically to humans, and the absence of substantial human trial data is the central fact about both compounds.
Regulatory status in the US
Neither is an FDA-approved medicine. Both circulate as research chemicals sold for laboratory use, and material sold that way is not made to pharmaceutical standards, is not tested for identity or purity in the way a prescription drug is, and offers no assurance that the vial contains what the label says.
